Europe 2010 – Mykonos - Day 9

When we got up this morning, reality struck, despite our little holiday house being the perfect seaside cottage, there was not one drop of food in the house and the only way to solve was to drive into the village.

Everything seems like an effort now you see, all the relaxing has done this to us :)

When fogging our way to the car Nancy’s mum called us over to the main house to tell us she wanted to give us just a small something to eat to start the day.

Watermelon... Fresh figs (from the garden)...honey dew melon...grapes...fresh bread...apricot marmalade (made by Nancy's mum from the apricot tree)...cheeses...coffee. It was wonderful.

We then went into the village and did a supermarket shop for our house so we don't encroach on the hospitality, came back and went to the beach. The beach is the family's private beach and it’s about 40m from where we are staying. How has it taken me this long to come to Nancy’s village? No wonder Nancy comes here yearly. This beach side village is amazing.

For lunch we went to a cafe where the waiter said "here's what they've made today...and she listed the items" $30 later between 5 people, we were completely full (re-occuring theme here) and it would easily be the best Greek food I have ever eaten. So fresh, so delicious.

We then came back to the house and did a little reading on our balcony which overlooks the sea and some cliff tops. John, Jo and Jamie then had a nap and I wandered down to the main house and chatted with Alex's partner, Shannon and also Nancy's Uncle. Nancy's Uncle is a really sweet man and wouldn't look out of place on the set of My Big Fat Greek wedding. He sits on the balcony eternally with a cigarette in one hand and a fly swatter in the other smacking every fly that comes close and alternates between modern conversations and "een the eenglish language there are seventeen thousand words all from the Greek language..."

After another swim at 7 (its light until 9:30) we got dressed and went back to the main house for Nancy's nieces birthday party. 30 people came for a 'casual low key gathering'. You should have seen all the food (no surprise to you that Nancy’s mum and aunt had cooked all day and the tables were covered will all Greek delicious foods.)

We ate and chatted the night away village style.
