Laziness
has moved to a whole new level. Today we slept in... sat in a trance on the
balcony for 2 hours then drove to the beach on the other side of the property.
To walk this would take 5 mins max. Yes, we drove. We got in the car at 2:24pm
and we arrived at 2:24pm. Very Lazy.
We swam,
we snoozed, we read, we played beach tennis which took us through to 4:30pm
then we had lunch at the cafe nearby which we love so much with all its
beautiful traditional food.
For lunch
we had another wonderful selection of Greek dishes. Here are my favourites:
1. Gigites
(Yigandes) - these
are large lima beans with a tomato, olive oil and parsley.
2.
Kotopoulo Kokkinisto which is a baked chicken dish in a tomato/cinnamon sauce served with hilopites pasta and topped
with mitzithra cheese
3. Greek
Salad - the key is in the gorgeous olive oil then there's simple just tomatoes,
red onion, peeled cucumber, green olives, green capsicum and a wad of feta placed on the top.
After the
late lunch we slowly got ready to go to Monemvasia's castle which is a short
drive away. To state the obvious... it’s a castle... but inside there are
shops, bars and little hotels all build around the remains of the castle. We
wandered around, had a few drinks then went into town for a crepe then were
back where we're staying by about 1:00am.
This time
of year here is known as festival of the shooting stars so we went down to the
beach in front of us and looked up at an amazing sky full of shooting stars. It
was incredible. For some reason Jo didn't seem to spot any for quite some time.
It was unfortunate as Shannon came to join us half way through and as soon as
she sat down she said "there's a shooting star!" which was a bit
frustrating for Jo as she was still yet to see one but then she started
spotting them.
Nancys
cousin Yiani deserves a mention. He's 30, his english is
excellent, albeit with a heavy Greek accent. He's very calm, understated and
kind. He picked a flower for each of the girls and when handing it to Nancy,
Nancys response was "why are you giving me this?" And his reply was
"because it’s nice...it smells ok...let's say the smell is not so
bad". My response was "you should come to australia and sell
fragrance for the company I work for...tell the customer it smells ok...not so
bad..." Maybe it was the ouzo but
we all got a very hearty laugh out of this (Yianni included - his sense of
humour is excellent).
Bed time
was about 3am - still early for this village though!
